H&J Welcomes New Operations Director

H&J has recently added a new member to our growing team of highly talented people and we welcome Alan Beddie on board as our new Operations Director.  Alan brings many years of experience to the role having started his career as a chef at Oxford University and then in various hotels and restaurants before entering the contract catering world in 1992 and working his way through the ranks.

At Oxford, where he also developed his lifelong commitment to the local football club, Alan saw that many of the things that we strive for today, such as sourcing products locally and using exclusively fresh produce were taken for granted.  In those days a large proportion of the vegetables and fresh herbs were grown on site by the University gardeners and the butcher would deliver four times a day, direct from the market on a bicycle!  Not something that we can re-create in London now, but it gave Alan an appreciation for fresh, seasonal ingredients which will stand him in good stead at H&J.

On his reasons for joining H&J, Alan says, “In my opinion H&J are the most creative company there has been in our market since the beginning of time.  They have an abundance of great ideas and enough energy to light up the whole city of London!  Furthermore, they are exceptionally well resourced and in an increasingly difficult market with rising operating costs and a huge number of competitors, we are well positioned to deliver the very best standards within our sector.”

Alan’s role will cover operational accountability for financial performance, client retention and general ops requirements such as recruitment, training, health and safety and business development.  He sees his key goals as ensuring that all the excellent ideas, talent and resource that we have are used effectively to make a real and sustainable difference to our clients businesses.
