H&J Great Pumpkin Competition
Wednesday November 8th 2006

In conjunction with October’s monthly social event and to celebrate Halloween, Harbour & Jones held a pumpkin carving competition at Lewis Silkin on Friday 27th October. All members of staff from any of our units were eligible to enter (knife-wielding skills an advantage) and squashes of all shapes and sizes were provided as were glitter, paint and other creative materials.
Stuart Clarke, our head chef at Lewis, started off the proceedings with a carving master class which was well-attended, not just by H&J people, but also by some of the lawyers in the building. We were then given an hour to create our own show-stopper. The head office team of Mark, Sally and Melanie excelled themselves with remarkably accurate portrayals of Nathan and Patrick in the medium of butternut squash, but as Nathan was judging, they didn’t quite make it onto the shortlist!
The eventual winner was Gareth Barber from Lewis Silkin with his brilliant and obviously well-researched “Drunken Pumpkin”, with Chris Blackwell from Trowers coming in a close second with “Scary Mary” complete with black wig. Gareth was the lucky recipient of the trophy, a gorgeous stuffed pumpkin toy, but was rather more impressed with the bottle of champagne.
The evening was rounded off with drinks at a local pub to mark the end of another successful H&J get-together.
