Fighting for a Sustainable Future
Wednesday September 3rd 2008

Harbour & Jones is now working with the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) in a move that will see us using only fish from sustainable sources on our menus. We have put together a “Good Fish Guide” for all the units which highlights which fish to eat and which should be avoided so that our chefs can make informed decisions when planning their menus. Fish caught in UK day boats such as sole, flounder, gurnard and mackerel will be on the ‘to eat’ list as well as organically farmed Scottish salmon and MCS certified Alaskan salmon, rope-grown mussels, line-caught Pollack and many others wonderful species.
The MCS is a UK charity dedicated to the protection of our seas, beaches and marine life. Through a programme of education, collaboration and campaigning, the MCS is fighting to achieve diverse, clean and productive seas for wildlife and for future generations.
Looking away from the sea, we have also become a corporate supporter of the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, a conservation charity working to restore Britain’s native livestock breeds to our countryside. The RBST works with farmers and smallholders to protect a diverse range of traditional breeds which are in danger of dying out. Their marketing campaigns help producers to farm these animals profitably, whether for meat, wool or dairy by promoting the virtues of these old British varieties to the consumer and they are also involved with other charities such as the National Trust and the RSPB in using animals for conservation grazing in area of environmental importance.
