Christmas Social – Getting Creative with Gingerbread

It was our last Social of the year on Friday and in true H&J style, the team at Lewis Silkin hosted a Christmas Gingerbread Sculpting Competition. As always, anyone who wished to participate was eligible, team entries were positively encouraged and the prizes were kept secret!

Our chefs provided the gingerbread and whilst icing, sweets and a variety of decorative bits and bobs were supplied, entrants were encouraged to bring their own materials to add the X factor to their creations. The only rules were to keep within the theme of Christmas, to stick within the time limit of 1 hour and to be as imaginative as possible.

We had great attendance from across the units with the Chefs trying their hand at creating some magnificent sculptures and the rest of us having fun decorating ginger bread men with icing pens, glitter and lots of sweets and getting very messy in the process.

After much deliberation, the winning sculpture was declared to be Breno Morais’s beautifully detailed gingerbread house complete with reindeer and Father Christmas. Second and third prizes went to Chris Blackwell and Richard Haye from Trowers and there were lots of runners-up.

Huge thanks must go to Stuart Clarke who, as always, put 110% into making the night a lot of fun, for his great sculptures and the feast he laid on for us all – especially the delicious mulled wine and snowballs!

All this healthy competition has meant the gang at Lewis have yet to be beaten in our competitions, so the pressure is on for the rest of the units at our New Year event – Burns Night Dinner & Quiz at Trowers & Hamlins!!
