Christmas Charity Dinner
Thursday January 8th 2009

On 16th December, H&J hosted our first Charity Dinner at The Royal Society, Carlton House Terrace.
The event was organised and managed by the Long Acre team, who all joined forces to host 90 guests, including clients, managers, chefs and suppliers.
Although we gave ourselves a very tight timescale by committing to this event in late November, the evening was hugely successful and a great opportunity for our team to work together. After reception drinks and canapes where our signature giant cheese straws towered in glass vases throughout the hall, our guests were served a four course dinner with wine to complement and of course excellent British cheeses.
The menu was as predictably adventurous as it was traditional, with all the produce donated generously by our suppliers. Pumpkin soup with a truffle foam was followed by smoked salmon from W&F Fish and rye bread from Rinkoffs Bakery. The main course was slow braised shoulder of hogget and a herbed rack of lamb and pudding was a very traditional free-range egg custard tart with nougat icecream. Given the guest list, the pressure was on to perform and the team did the company proud both in terms of food and service.
Of course the main objective for the evening was to support two worthy causes and thanks to further generosity from our suppliers, associates and clients, we hosted a very successful auction with opportunities to bid for fabulous prizes such as 2 corporate tickets to see Manchester United at Old Trafford, a tutored wine tasting for 15 with Jancis Robinson and cookery classes at the Cookery School in Little Portland Street. Finally a raffle was held with all diners entering their name on a £10 note for the chance to win a variety of foodie hampers, wine or even an ipod nano!
The combined effect for the evening was an impressive £7,000 being raised for each of the two chosen charities: Leonard Cheshire Disability and Crisis.
We would like to say a massive thank you to The Royal Society for allowing us to host our evening in their beautiful Carlton House Terrace dining rooms; to all our suppliers for their incredible generosity and to everyone who took part and donated to the chosen charities and we can’t wait to see if we can do better at next year’s event.
