All In A Good Cause……
Friday March 23rd 2007

By now you’ll know that we couldn’t let Red Nose Day pass without hurling ourselves headlong into the spirit of the event and raising some money for a good cause in the process.
The H&J creative team of Jules & Fran came up with some great ideas to part people from their cash during service hours, including selling Red Nose cherry muffins, for which thanks to the guys at Rinkoffs, competitions to guess the number of tomatoes in the jar (tomatoes kindly donated by Kirby’s and 4 Degrees C) and selling retail packs of Union Coffee’s Rwanda Maraba Bourbon coffee. Jules had also been busy distributing collection tins, t-shirts and red noses so that our guys really did look the part.
For most people, the highlight of the day was the opportunity to employ a member of the management team either as a kitchen porter, a barista or general assistant. Full credit to Mark Parfait, usually to be seen swanning around the kitchen, for getting his rubber gloves on and doing some real work for a change! Sadly for Comic Relief, Patrick and Nathan were called away to a meeting in Scotland at the last minute so we lost out on the large fee that they would have commanded had they been available. However, Sally and Jules more than made up for their absence in terms of glamour and style so maybe raised more money anyway. Well done to the British Bankers Association for raising more than any of the bigger sites. I don’t know what they were offering, but it obviously worked.
We rounded off the day with the “Big Song” karaoke extravaganza which was held at Lewis Silkin and open to all H&J and Lewis employees. I don’t think any of them should give up the day jobs yet (luckily for us), but special mention to Gareth and Peter for their brilliant version of “Park Life” and to Simon Harding for his rendition of “Day Dream Believer” – The Monkees eat your hearts out! Also, many, many thanks to Simon for allowing the use of the café and for supporting everything that went on over the day. Thanks too to everyone who was involved in raising the grand sum of £1229 – what a result!
